Elmer’s 10 – Expos 0 (5 inning mercy rule)

Elmer’s WANTED this game to get back to the Championship series for the second straight year, and it showed on the diamond.  They continued their season long domination of the Expos with a 10-0 mercy rule in 5 innings.  In the three meetings during the regular season Elmer’s won by a combined total of 21-1 with two shutouts.  The loser’s bracket final was the same story.

Elmer’s jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st and never took their foot off the gas.  Ken Cook only allowed one bloop single to right field in the top of the fifth to miss out on a no-hitter while striking out eight batters, including the last three after the bloop hit and Expos pitcher Ben Fortin started screaming and staring down the opponent down 8-0.  Fortin struck out his next at bat, and was ejected the next inning for throwing at Andersons knee.  That gave Elmer’s all the inspiration they needed to end the game early and send the Expos to the offseason.

Ken Cook helped out his own cause at the plate, going 2-4 with 5 RBI including the dagger in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI single that scored Nick Dinino from second without the ball reaching the outfield thanks to some heads up base running.  Nick Dinino went 2-2 with two singles, two walks, 3 runs, and 2 RBIs.

Next up for Elmer’s is the Plaza Azteca Indians in the Championship Series.  They will be looking to bounce back from a tough loss Monday night in the winner’s bracket final, blowing a 3-1 lead late in the game.  The series begins with a doubleheader Wednesday night at Rotary Field in South Windsor(weather permitting) with Game 1 at 6pm.
