This Friday night is the annual the Bristol Twilight Interleague exhibition game at Muzzy Field.  This year, the Bristol Shock (formerly the Bristol Knights/Southington Aftershock) and the Bristol Greeners of the GHTBL meet on the field with the added goal to honor our Bristol Police officers and benefit the families of those officers killed in the line of duty last October. Both teams wanted to do something positive as our seasons are starting back up and are raising money for the Fund the First Campaign benefitting the families of officers Hamzy and DeMonte. Some of the players on both teams had known the officers affected by the tragedy last October. In talking we realized our yearly baseball game could be used to bring some good back to the community and the families. This initiative was spearheaded by the coaching staff of both the Greeners and Shock, and especially Bristol Coach/Player Justin Martella who himself is a Wolcott Police officer but lives with his family here in Bristol. Justin’s work with LT. Robert C. Osborne of the Bristol Police helped make this event possible.

After 20 seasons as the Bristol Knights in the CTL, they are now known as the Bristol Shock after a mid season merger with the Southington Aftershock. The Shock are composed of many longtime local Bristol area baseball guys, some current college players, and many former college players. The Shock are excited to start our season in 2023 with the benefit exhibition game. The Shock are led by a strong core of player coaches who’ve been playing together for many years and happy to be back together on the field. The Shock are expected to be a strong team in the Connecticut Twilight League in 2023.

The Greeners head into their third year in the Greater Hartford Twilight League, looking to improve in league play this year after adding a number of new players in their second year under manager Trevor Mays. Their roster is comprised of a combination of former high school standouts and current/former college players, primarily from Bristol as well as across the state and New England. This will also be their third annual meeting with the Connecticut Twilight League’s Bristol club. Trevor and the team are looking forward to the opportunity to support the community and our local police.
